The Legion Speedway opened last Sunday (7/24) for the first of 3 races scheduled for the 2011 season. The track is hosting the Open Cockpit Super Sunday Series which consists of GSMS 500cc and 600cc mini sprints along with the NEMS 600cc class, the 750cc/1200cc "big" mini sprints and the SCoNE 360 sprint cars. Over 50 cars were in the pits Sunday and it proved to be a fantastic afternoon of racing.
Lacey Hanson (#33) came home with the win in the 500cc class after a great battle with the #13 of Stephen Hutchinson, who finished the race in second, followed by Josh Boissoneau in third. The 33 race team would like to thank John Moses and Matthew Robie for allowing Lacey to drive their 600cc mini sprint Sunday afternoon. It was a great experience and Lacey had a blast, ending up in 3rd place. Last up was the SCoNE 360 class. With only a few cautions slowing the race, Nick Berry lead flag to flag to bring home the win followed by Shawn Lawler (18L) and Tyler Rich (20). Lacey finished in the 8th position. The 360 sprint cars will be at Bear Ridge Speedway this Saturday 7/30. Hope to see you all there.
