The Legion Speedway opened last Sunday (7/24) for the first of 3 races scheduled for the 2011 season. The track is hosting the Open Cockpit Super Sunday Series which consists of GSMS 500cc and 600cc mini sprints along with the NEMS 600cc class, the 750cc/1200cc "big" mini sprints and the SCoNE 360 sprint cars. Over 50 cars were in the pits Sunday and it proved to be a fantastic afternoon of racing.
Lacey Hanson (#33) came home with the win in the 500cc class after a great battle with the #13 of Stephen Hutchinson, who finished the race in second, followed by Josh Boissoneau in third. The 33 race team would like to thank John Moses and Matthew Robie for allowing Lacey to drive their 600cc mini sprint Sunday afternoon. It was a great experience and Lacey had a blast, ending up in 3rd place. Last up was the SCoNE 360 class. With only a few cautions slowing the race, Nick Berry lead flag to flag to bring home the win followed by Shawn Lawler (18L) and Tyler Rich (20). Lacey finished in the 8th position. The 360 sprint cars will be at Bear Ridge Speedway this Saturday 7/30. Hope to see you all there. The car came off the track in one piece so from that aspect it was a successful night. Congratulations to Jim Lowrey on his first SCoNE win. The Sprint Cars of New England were at Bear Ridge Speedway this past saturday night before a huge crowd in the stands. The pits were packed because of double features and the Midgets being on hand.
The night proved to be Lacey's best race in a 360 so far in her career. The 33 started on the outside pole of the heat race and lead for a few laps before being passed by last years champion Chris Donnelly. Lacey held on to finish 2nd in the heat. The 33 started 3rd in the feature and after a few laps in traffic took the lead from the 9 of Robby Bodwell. The 33 was out front for many laps until she got caught up in lap traffic which allowed Chris Donnelly in the number 1 to get by. With a few laps remaining, Kevin Chaffee in the number 8 got by and on the last lap the 7x of Dan Douville got by to take over the 3rd position. Lacey came home in fourth place. "It was an amazing race, I've never had so much fun and done so well. To finish 4th to those three guys still feels like a great accomplishment to me. They have a lot more laps under their belts than I do. I'm definitely not used to going through lapped traffic. I'm usually the one getting lapped." Overall it was a great night. A second place in the heat and a fourth place in the feature. A great fireworks show topped off the night for the 33 race team. SCoNE will be back at Bear Ridge this Saturday night July 9th Hope to see you all there. For a complete story and finishing order visit www.nesprintcars.com |
